What to Look for in a Dog Boarding Facility

Author: Art Gib

Dog boarding in most areas around the country are readily available. You can find a safe, comfortable place for your dog to stay while you are away on business or vacation so you will not need to worry about leaving them with friends or family. No inconveniencing relatives to take care of your loved one and no worrying about whether or not they know how to love your pet the "right way".

When using a dog boarding place you will know that your dog is well-taken care of, loved, fed, allowed to run around freely, and play with other animals. They will be safe; around other small dogs, sleeping at night in cozy, warm beds with their friends.

Dog boarding does not always mean having your dog put in a kennel either. There are other options. Some dog boarders have been ingenious in the way they have set up their boarding resorts so that the dogs can run and play with the other dogs. Having "free time" to associate with the other dogs so that your dog will remember how to socialize and have fun with its new friends.

Socializing is an important activity for dogs, allowing them to have healthy relationships with other dogs so that they are not shy or intimidated by other animals without reason. By having a dog boarding resort that specializes in only small dogs, your dog will fit right in and not have to worry about being bullied by the bigger dogs.

Getting exercise while at a dog boarding resort can be a problem normally, but there are some facilities where this will not be a problem. By not having the dogs held in kennels, they are allowed to roam around and encouraged to run, thereby getting the exercise they need for a healthy life. Even if you only bring your dog for a short visit, you will be helping your pet to get the exercise it needs and the socialization it wants.

When looking for dog boarding facilities, some of the things you need to consider are whether or not they will be able to continue feeding your dog the food you provide. Some resorts prefer to feed all the animals the same food, which is not in the best interest of the dog because that introduces a new set of ingredients and mixtures into their digestive tract. If your pet suffers from any kind of food-allergies or sensitivities, this can cause problems.

The best solution is for you to find a boarding resort that will allow you to provide your own food, so your dog's digestive system will not be interrupted.
